National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a project of MHRD, Government of India initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003, to provide quality education to anyone interested in learning from the IITs. The main goal was to create web and video courses in all major branches of engineering and physical sciences at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and management courses at the postgraduate level.
MOOCs [Massive Open Online Courses] Coordination Cell of DVSIET had set up the NPTEL Local chapter in Feb 2017. The main objective of this DVSIET- NPTEL Local Chapter is to create awareness and enable students to obtain certification programmes and make employable or add value and quality in their graduation degree. Dewan V S Institute of Engineering & Technology is the Active Local Chapter of NPTEL since 2018 to bridge between the students and NPTEL.

NPTEL is offering the online courses with a timeline of 4, 8, and 12-weeks through an online portal.
Each week, you need to watch 3 to 6 video lectures (of length 20 to 30 minutes) and attempt one online Assignment quiz at your convenient time and submit within a deadline.
The enrolment to and learning from these courses involves no cost, watch video lectures and attempt. Assignment online quizzes.
After 2-3 weeks of starting of the course, an option of Registration for Final Exam with the fees of Rs. 1000/1100 will be given. If you’re confident enough, you can proceed to the Exam Registration.
A scholarship is provided to the participants from a Local Chapter for SC/ST/Minority and low income (5 lakhs per annum). For last semester, many of our college students received a 50% fee waiver in the exam fees. As per the availability of funds by the sponsors, it may be given this time also.
E-certificate from organizing IIT/IISc will be given to the successful candidates of the Final score=25% assignment score(online) + 75% exam (Proctored) score. To be eligible for a certificate, the learner should have scored >=40% final score. E-verifiable certificates are made available on nptel.ac.in/noc
NPTEL conducts final (proctored) exams at different exam centers all over India.
You can learn the subject from the expert faculties of IITs/IISc.
You can get certified by NPTEL and IITs/IISc.
In most of the courses, there is a list of industries that will consider this course certificate. NPTEL also shares the toppers’ list to those industries for recruitment purposes.

The certificates issued bear the stamp of CCE, IIT and hence are valuable additions when the student is applying for jobs.
On successful completion of an advanced NPTEL course by the faculties, AICTE approved as FDP so that they can get the points for the same. This FDP certificate is given full consideration for promotion under CAS as per AICTE notification.
Students can use the NPTEL programmes for GATE and High Studies preparation.
Our university (AKTU) considers the completion of NPTEL courses for credit transfer [4 Weeks - 2 Credit, 8 Weeks -3 Credit and 12 Weeks - 4 Credit]
Certificates recognized by companies and research centres to give internship opportunities.
Faculty members who teach the course or in relevant disciplines can be a mentor. They need to enroll in the course.
Mentors can only choose upto 2 courses.
No minimum number of students to be a mentor; Maximum ratio of 1:50
Students have to select the mentor on the portal

Mentors can help with explaining gaps in taught concepts.
